Writing out what a passage says and how God is speaking through it
“And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”
HABAKKUK 2:2 (KJV)
Journaling is the act of writing down the reflections we are holding from our experiences. Many people journal at the end of a day or week, but journaling isn’t siloed to reflecting on life experiences. We can journal our reflections from Scripture as well.
Journaling has power in the fact that it is physical. The act of marking a physical object with letters and words has a grounding effect for us. For many, journaling has the ability to keep us focused on the task at hand, not allowing our minds to wander.
There is no right or wrong way to journal. Some people journal with words only. Others include artwork - colors, pictures, paintings to articulate their feelings and desires before God. The important part is our thoughts, reflections, and responses to God are honest. We don’t journal who we want to be, who we wish we were, or even who we think God wants us to be. We journal as ourselves.
